Lede
When shells fall, the world writes statements and calls it courage.
What does not make sense
- Endless “grave concern” with no deadlines, no monitors, no teeth.
- Red lines drawn in pencil, rubbed out when cameras leave.
- Aid promised in press rooms, delayed on borders when it matters most.
- Sanctions announced for headlines, leaked and loopholed before they bite.
- Ceasefires drafted as theatre, not protection.
- Leaders who sell into the fires by day and pray for peace by night.
Sense check
If you will not stop a war, do not dress in the language of rescue. Say the quiet part. Say you chose trade, polling, and comfort. At least be honest. Words are cheap. Lives are not.
What action looks like
- Fund and secure corridors to move the wounded now, not next week.
- Put independent monitors on the ground and publish daily reports.
- Enforce embargoes with inspections that actually turn ships around.
- Tie aid to verifiable steps and suspend it when those steps vanish.
- Offer real refuge and process it fast. Humanity first.
The Hermit take
The world talks in corners because the centre is hot. Step in or step aside. Anything else is noise.
Keep or toss
Toss the statements. Keep the deeds.
